Caring for your jewellery

There are a few things you can do to care for and prolong the life of your jewellery:

  • It’s recommended that you remove your jewellery before bathing, washing up, gardening, swimming, playing sport and visiting the beach. This will help delay any precious or plated metal from wearing or tarnishing, or damaging any threading material, gemstones or pearls.

  • It’s best to allow your body creams, perfume and hairspray to dry first before putting on your jewellery. The chemicals in these products can tarnish (oxidise) precious and plated metals and discolour or ruin gemstones and pearls.

  • Before removing your jewellery, be sure to always undo the clasp mechanism if one has been incorporated into your piece.

  • If your jewellery is threaded onto elasticated cord, try to preserve its elasticity by not overstretching it when putting it on or taking it off. It's generally best to roll it on.

  • Try to regularly clean your jewellery with a jewellery cloth, particularly if it comprises precious or plated metal.

  • You can delay the tarnishing of precious and plated metal by placing it in an airtight (zip-lock) bag when not in use, or, if provided, in its organza or satin bag.
